Katie has been the lead teacher at Hidden Valley Preschool since it opened. It is clear that she has an innate talent in working with the preschool age group and realizing each of their individual potentials. The children are always engaged and excited to learn with Katie’s fun, hands-on activities and ever-changing lesson plans. Her passion and dedication for teaching is undeniable.

In 2002, Katie moved from Minneapolis to attend college at St. Scholastica and has happily called Duluth home ever since.   After graduating Summa Cum Laude with a degree in Elementary Education and a math specialty, Katie began substitute teaching in the Duluth Public School District and was drawn to the kindergarten and first grade classrooms. When she accepted a job at Hidden Valley Preschool, she realized how much she enjoyed working with preschoolers and now can’t imagine doing anything else!

She finds it fascinating to watch and be a part of the significant growth and development that happens between the ages of 3 and 5 as the children prepare for elementary school. When Katie’s not at Hidden Valley, you can find her downhill ski racing, tap dancing, taking her two Rhodesian Ridgebacks on a walk with her husband, Jeff, or throwing rocks into the lake with her daughter Gracie.

“Becoming a mom has given me a great appreciation for the trust our families place in us, and has given my teaching that added layer of ‘mother’ now too.” Teaching has always been a big part of Katie’s life, but she said she’s truly found her home at Hidden Valley. This summer she will become the owner and director of HVP. She said she’s “simultaneously humbled and overjoyed at the opportunity to own the school I love so much and to get to continue working with these amazing kids.” She will be spending nearly every moment between now and then transforming the new location into Hidden Valley’s new home!
